An Experimental Study on the Effect of the Structured Patient Teaching for Cardiac Catheterization and Cardiac Angiography

Abstract
The Purpose of this study is to identify a more effective method of patient teaching for cardiac catheterization and cardiac angiography by comparing the structured teaching with the unstructured teaching.
The 30 patients (experimental group : 15 patients, control group : 15 patients) were selected. They were above 15 years old and got the cardiac catheterization and cardiac angiography from July 14 to October 8, 1981 at Seoul National University Hospital. This Study was carried on by the methods of interview with questionnaires and observations.
The results of this study were reviewed in a statistical method two way analysis of variance to obtain the following findings:
1. The mean value of pre-cardiac catheterizational and pre cardiac angiographic State Anxiety Score measured by STAI was 48.5¡¾11.7 and that score was higher than the score of normal Korean Adults (male : 42.97¡¾10.15, female : 41.96¡¾9.80)
2. There was no significant difference between the structured teaching and the unstructured teaching in the precardiac catheterizational and precardiac angiographic state anxiety according to trait anxiety.
3. There was no significant difference between the structured teaching and the unstructured teaching in the patient distress during cardiac catheterization and cardiac angiography according to trait anxiety.
4. There was statistically significant difference between the unstructured teaching in the patient cooperation during cardiac catheterization and cardiac angiography according to trait anxiety (p<0.05)
